Spa Day at Rudding Park

Harrogate has always been my home, and for that I will forever be grateful. It is a beautiful spa town filled to the brim with exclusive restaurants, bars and hotels, but maintains the ever-rare balance of Yorkshire greenery with urban life. It’s no surprise that it has continually been voted the happiest place to live in the UK.

One of Harrogate’s gems is Rudding Park Hotel and Spa, a luxury, privately owned hotel, set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland. The hotel itself is something to write home about, with two exquisite restaurants, a golf course and events space – so you can imagine the excitement when they announced that they were developing a brand spanking new spa.

Opened in May this year, the spa at Rudding is just magical.

Spa days are my favourite: the ultimate indulgence of lounging around all day in a white fluffy robe and slippers, drinking numerous cups of cucumber infused water and feeling rather exhausted from doing absolutely nothing!

I could not wait for some girl-time with my ‘member’ mummy and cousin.

As soon as we arrived we changed into our day’s attire – swimming costumes, robes and Rudding flip-flops and made our way past the gorgeous swimming pool (who has time for doing lengths on a spa day!) and up to the Roof Top Spa Experience, which is where we spent the majority of our day. There we spent far too much time deliberating what to do first. The panoramic sauna? The herbal bath steam room? The Caribbean storm experience shower? The hydrotherapy infinity pool? Finally we opted for the outdoor spa bath Jacuzzi with air and water jets.

The fact that it was an overcast day did not bother us and we even spent some time on the cushioned patio sets outside reading books, gossiping and loving that we had no care in the world. We also had a go on the ‘gyroscope’ style chairs, rolling around the place in a rather manic fashion! For the hours we were there we swanned in and out of the different experiences, enjoying ways of relaxing that I didn’t even know existed!

At noon we headed down to Horto Café for some lunch and in classic ‘girly-spa-day’ fashion I ordered a charred broccoli, quinoa, sweet potato salad with a chilli-lime dressing and plenty of water to stay hydrated from all the energy I’d exerted in the morning.

The afternoon was filled with more relaxing and we spent a long stretch in the hydrotherapy pool, where we moved round the different water stations which target all areas of the body – in-water foot massagers, back jets, shoulder water jets and even in-water loungers with Jacuzzi bubbles. After loosening up our muscles, we heated up in the garden sauna cabin and cooled down with cool mist showers and ice station.

Everything about our day was just perfect, and it was about to get better.

Treatment time!

We headed downstairs to the treatment zone and I was guided into a small room for my 50-minute ‘Radiance Facial’. I was asked some questions in order to personalise my experience and then the lights were dimmed and my treatment began. Including a shoulder, neck and head massage, I also had a cleansing mask applied to improve my skin’s smoothness and tone. It was blissful and I actually almost fell asleep!

It was over too quickly and feeling recharged I was shown to the four exclusive Mind and Sense Zones for guests who have had treatments. These relaxation zones comprised of a ‘Visual’ room with projected scenes of lapping waves, wildflower meadows and mountainscapes on the video mood wall; a ‘Relax’ room with a sparkling star-lit ceiling and large lounger beds for complete peace and quiet; an ‘Audio’ room where you are able to listen to meditation and sound healing tracks through personal headsets; and a ‘Mind’ room with puzzles, colouring therapy and books.

From the plants and trees surrounding the spa, to the interior décor of the changing facilities, and even the mood colour lighting in the steam room, every minor detail was taken into account. There was not one thing that had not been thought of to make this experience the ultimate paradise.

So, if you ever find yourself in this pocket of Yorkshire, be sure to book your girly spa day! If you want to find out more information visit their website here.
