Just over a year ago I was lucky enough to travel across the world to Australia. There, I had one ‘must-do’ goal – have an acai bowl! Enjoying the sun, sea and incredible beaches that West Oz had to offer we stumbled across @theacaicorner in a carpark on our way to Margaret River. My life was complete!
Since then, whenever an acai or smoothie bowl is on the menu I have to order it. There is nothing quite like a bowl full of fruity, sweet and tasty goodness in the morning, and what’s more – they always look too good to eat, so you can get that all important insta shot!
Acai berries are now extremely popular and this is because of their potential health benefits. Acai is eaten in the fresh form in Brazil and is one of the most popular functional foods consumed in the Amazon area. Having spread globally over the past few years, acai berries are known to be rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. They are also a great source of fibre that can now be bought as a frozen fruit puree, juice drink or a powder. It is no wonder that when it was introduced into our society that it fast became the ‘must-try’ ingredient.
There are so many smoothie bowl recipes out there, and you can even make them up as you go along with fruit you have left over in the fridge! But here is a simple one of my own that is fool-proof, guaranteed to make you want more!
1 frozen banana
Handful of frozen berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries)
2 tsp. Bioglan Superfoods Supergreens Acai and Berry Powder (available here)
1 tbsp. nut butter
150 ml almond milk
1 tbsp. chai seeds
(Anything you fancy…)
Muesli or granola
– Place all ingredients in a food blender and pulse until smooth.
– Put smoothie mixture into a breakfast bowl and place in the freezer.
– Prepare your toppings by slicing fruit and deciding what you’ll add!
– After 5 minutes in the freezer, take smoothie bowl out and decorate.
– Take a photo (that’s what acai bowls are for!) and indulge!
