Ragdale, Ragdale, Ragdale – my favourite place to escape from London for a bit of R&R!
Now an annual ‘girl’s trip’, to say I was excited about our weekend getaway was an understatement. I also can’t remember the last time that Lu, Mumma and I had some quality time together to gossip, drink fizz and read books!
We arrived on Friday and clocked off from work with a 6pm head massage – a pretty good way to start the weekend I think! Despite the oily hair, I was left feeling totally tranquil and could enjoy our first 3 course dinner without any stress!
We were all in the same room, which made it feel like a real girl’s sleepover, with complimentary Clarins products on our bed when we arrived and a beautiful view of the countryside.
The next two days were spent unwinding in the hydrotherapy pools, sauna, colour flow cave, candle pool, rainforest showers, lava flow cave, jacuzzi…and more! You couldn’t describe a better spa weekend if you tried with the variety that is on offer at Ragdale and everything is designed to absolute perfection – allowing you to heat up in some rooms, cool down in others, and refresh yourself with infused water and ice fountains!
You get the chance to forget all your troubles, focus your mind, release inner positivity and relax your body, chatting about all sorts of nonsense and losing sense of time!
There really is something for everyone, even outside of the ‘spa facilities’ whether it’s the ‘mind zone’ room with puzzles, colouring and games, to the Retreat which is a silent room with beds, beanbags and swimming chairs – perfect to curl up and read a book.
Ragdale is a dedicated spa, which means everyone is there for the same reason – to C H I L L, and that means white fluffy dressing gowns. All. Day. Long. (Yes, even when you’re having lunch in the dining room!) Could things really get any better?
From the moment you wake up to breakfast in bed, you can indulge in the most scrumptious treats – my absolute favourite atholl brose is a recurring theme every year, and on top of that I had a butternut squad and feta muffin, fruit, smoothie and lemon hot water! Mor for lunch and dinner which was equally as delicious, all healthy and full of nutrients!!
We enjoyed a really special weekend and were lucky enough to have a few treatments lined up…
Lavender Body Treatment, Elemis Facial, Full Body Decleor Aromatherapy Massage – Heaven!
In addition to enjoying the total experience, there is also the most gorgeous little shop, with the best sales assistants who help you navigate the complicated world of skincare products. They also have THE most amazing Xmas packages where you get full sized products at a fraction of the price. All I’m saying is that I’m excited for Santa to come this year.
I really do think skincare is so important and there are so many theories out there about whether expensive moisturiser is worth it, or hacks about the best way to get rid of spots and blemishes. Personally, yes I have the cheap products like we all do, but I also try to save up for a few key products that I know will really help my skin. It’s also about listening to your own body as it is 100% bespoke to you. I’m lucky that I’ve never had too many issues with my skin other than occasional spots, blemishes, oil and dryness. For me, I find my skin flairs up when I am stressed or I eat badly. Therefore I have some key products that I use every day and others that I only use when I’m feeling I need a little bit of love to help rebalance everything.
Some of the products I have got at Ragdale over the last few years are miracle workers, and others are things I’ve been recommended by friends or beauty consultants. I wanted to list some of my favourites below and if you try them out or have any recommendations, then comment below!
I try to use this mask once a week and apply after a shower or after I’ve wiped my face with a hot cloth (which means my pores are open). It really does make my skin brighter and smoother, purifying the skin by keeping it clean and clear. The bamboo charcoals acts like a magnetic to draw out impurities from my pores and the clay absorbs toxins. I think this is a perfect treat after a long week at work, reasonably prices, lasts ages and makes you feel fab!
This year’s Ragdale addition, this was used in my Elemis Facial and I just could not get enough. It smells divine and leaves your skin positively glowing! I use this on cleansed and toned skin before moisturiser and make-up. This oil is anti-oxidant and omega-rich with broccoli, flax seed and radish which feeds the skin, it’s non-greasy, lightweight and absorbs super easily. Worth noting that if you’ve put too much on, your skin won’t absorb and it will gradually become oily throughout the day – a few drops will go a long way, so don’t overdo it and it will last forever!
There are quite a few cheap versions out there, but in my opinion none can compare to Dior’s Micellar water that offers powerful makeup removal leaving your skin feeling fresh, radiant and clean. This product is infused with Echinacea flower extract but has a soft texture. Apply with a cotton pad all over the face – I use in the morning to freshen up, when I get back home from work, or a day out (and post removing make-up) or whenever I feel like cleaning my face, you’d be surprised how much dirt your face picks up!
Suitable for sensitive and combination skin, I just love the smell and freshness of this cleanser. I use every day in the shower for cleaner, more radiant skin and it forms a gentle foam when applied. The product is 99% natural ingredients, which is a big tick from me and reasonably priced at £15. It removes make-up, impurities and dirt and does so without irritation, instead hydrating and renewing your skin!
Perhaps a more indulgent product, this stunning body oil smells heavenly and perfect for a cosy night in. I only use occasionally when I feel like having a real pamper and my skin is in need of a bit of love, as it really does make you feel like you’ve come out of a massage. The product blends essential oils and plant oils to help with dry skin and you are left feeling fully moisturised, softer and protected.
